One of the women instrumental in setting up the Island’s Women’s Refuge 23 years ago was given a special award this week at an event to mark 100 years of International Women’s Day.

Rozelle Sutherland was given the first ever Inspirational Woman’s Award at a breakfast event at the Radisson hotel and received a standing ovation from the 130-strong audience when the award was presented.

The award, sponsored by Barclays Wealth, was created this year and will now be awarded annually to someone who has inspired others.

The  charity event was organised by the Women’s Refuge and Jersey’s business network for women, Deals in Heels. All proceeds were to be donated to the Refuge.
